FAQs

What is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?

Everyone has muscles within their pelvis that control bowel, bladder and sexual function. These muscles are constantly active to keep you dry throughout the day and night. Physical therapists who are trained to assess and treat the joints, nerves, muscles and fascia inside the pelvis will assist with strengthening, stretching, improving coordination and reducing pain in this region. Your therapist may recommend a rectal or vaginal exam to assess these internal structures. This is performed only with your written AND verbal consent. Your PT will also address any issues in the rest of the body that may be contributing to your condition. Pelvic floor physical therapy is performed one on one in a private treatment room. We are a concierge medical practice where you, the patient, are listened to and heard.

Do you see male patients?

Yes! A lot, actually. Males can suffer from pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, bladder and bowel dysfunction just like women can. Many urologists in the area refer their male patients to us, and we can help.

What I have going on down there is quite embarrassing, are you sure you can help me? We have seen it all and treated it all. We realize that you're considering getting help with something that is private, sensitive, and troubling. That is exactly why we're here. There's no TMI at our office.

Do I need a referral?

No. You do not need a referral for the first 21 days, after that, YES, you will need one to continue with treatment. For females, it is ideal to have had a pelvic exam in the past 2 years.

What if I’m on my period?

There is no contraindication for treatment while menstruating, so please maintain your appointment schedule so we can meet your goals more efficiently. As always, it’s your choice if you prefer to defer but 24 hours cancellation notice is necessary to avoid a fee.

Do you treat other issues like back, neck, shoulder or knee issues like general orthopedic physical therapy?

We do! We're Doctors of Physical Therapy and have ample training and experience with all areas of the body.
